New mix series: What's Your Stattus? featuring JJ. Acuna of theWanderlister+ Asia
In JJ.'s own words: Being both an architect and a blogger allows me to travel all the time, but I wish I can say that I only travel in luxurious places… quite the opposite actually, there are times when I have to go for business to cities that are quite underdeveloped so you’re basically stuck in a hotel or some dated airport with nothing to do trying to burn time. That said, people travel to different destinations for different reasons, whether it’s a beach vacation, whether it’s a spiritual getaway, whether going for business, to get away from a loved one, or to even be with one, all the reasons for getaways are varied, and I wanted to make a “wanderlust” type travel playlist this year that responded to all the various feelings and emotions we feel when we “go away”. This is not your typical beach or airplane mix, I feel it’s a bit darker… the songs are about longing, separation, discovery, as well as relief. For example we’ve got songs by Beach House, Amy Winehouse, Gotye, Sophie-Ellis Bextor, Lana Del Rey, and Robyn which deal with romantic longings, while the songs by Calvin Harris and Rye Rye deal with the idea of carefree trysts. Also the songs on the playlists by CocknBullKid and Patrick Wolf is more about a reverie of one’s own city, sometimes the city we live in becomes too much for us, even makes us ill, and you only realize this once you’ve got distance and separation from it. In any rate, yes it is a bit dark, but plenty of fun elements and dreamy elements in the collection which I hope in the end of the day “can inspire” when there’s not much to do at the hotel or airport. But for your sake, I wish you at the beach.

Swiss techno genius Deetron in Hong Kong April 30
Deetron treats Bassment to an all-night DJ set on five-turntables on April 30. His latest double CD mix, Balance 20, blasted the silly "digital vs vinyl" DJ debate out of the water by recording the mix with both CDs and vinyl. Regardless of the technical geek-dom, Switzerland's 20+ year veteran DJ Deetron is a living representation of dance music's past and future, and is easily one of the most talented house and techno DJs to grace Hong Kong. The packed event is organized by Casey Anderson's pet project, Humdrum Hong Kong, and is expected to go well past sunrise into Tuesday's public holiday. Also featured are Humdrum's resident DJs Ocean Lam and Miko Van Chong, as well as Stattus' Senior Music Consultant, Casey. For more info, check out Time Out Hong Kong's preview on Deetron. Bassment is located at 13 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central.
